What we clean

  • Entry steps and their risers, in stone, brick or poured concrete
  • The landing and threshold at the door
  • Porch floors and the threshold at the door
  • The front walk, path or pavers running to the street or the drive
  • Stone surrounds, sills and the lower course beside the door

The part of the house every visitor stands on

The front entry gets more foot traffic than any other exterior surface and almost none of the attention. Treads hold damp in the shade, algae takes the joints first, and the walk greys a shade at a time until nobody notices how far it has gone - until the clean half is finished and the two sit side by side.

Each surface is cleaned at the pressure it can take. Poured concrete gets a surface cleaner, which is what keeps the finish even instead of striped. Sandstone treads, brick risers and flagstone get low pressure and a soft-wash solution that lifts the growth out of the pores and leaves the face of the stone intact. Beds beside the walk are watered before and after and never tarped.

FAQs

Front Entry & Pathway FAQ

Isn't the front entry included in a house wash?

No. A house wash cleans the siding, soffits, fascia and gutters. The steps, landing, porch floor and the walk are horizontal masonry that holds algae differently and needs its own method, so they are quoted as their own service rather than assumed into the house wash.

Will pressure damage sandstone or old brick?

It can, which is why the pressure is chosen per surface. Poured concrete takes a surface cleaner; sandstone treads, brick risers and flagstone take a low-pressure wash and a soft-wash solution that lifts algae out of the pores instead of blasting the face off the stone. Sandstone and brick and stone have pages of their own.

Can you do the entry and the driveway on the same visit?

Yes, and most people do - the entry, the driveway and the walkways are one trip and one quote. Send the property address and the whole approach comes back on one estimate.

How is the entry and path quoted?

As its own service. The steps, landing, porch floor and walk are horizontal masonry, so they are quoted rather than assumed into a house wash. Asked for with the driveway and the walkways, it is one trip and one quote.
