A City That Judges Its Own Front Doors
Residents voted in 1907 to leave Cleveland Heights and establish Idlewood Village, which took its present name in 1925, two years after John Carroll University bought a 45-acre campus site. Since 1963 the city has given Beautiful Home Awards, and Best Front Door is one of the categories. Nominations arrive as photographs, a committee chooses the winners, and each one gets a yard sign.
